Explore beautiful private gardens in Fowey during May 2026

Gardens are open Spring May Bank Holiday week on Monday May 25th & Tuesday May 26th

Your chance to discover six wonderful private gardens as they open their doors to the public over two days. Discover some of Fowey estuary’s hidden gems, from gardens with spectacular views, to secluded havens, walled gardens, hidden terraces and much more. Follow the trail to uncover a glorious mix of vibrant gardens with a diverse variety of planting.

There is much on offer to see, hear, taste and explore, with some gardens offering tea, coffee homemade cakes, a glass of prosecco, a book stall and live opera performances.

The Secret Gardens map and garden details will be available from the Festival box office, located in the Royal Fowey Yacht Club, during the Festival open days (May 2nd -9th). They will also be available at events during the Festival and at all participating gardens on May 25th and 26th.

Opera In The Garden

Secret Gardens is delighted to welcome back Thomas Martyn, who will be performing four short operatic interludes at Broadstairs garden on North Street and at Daglands House.

An impressive tenor and graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London under the tutelage of Adrian Thompson, Thomas now performs at charity events around the country and has taken on a variety of roles in amature theatre productions, such as Tom Collins in R.E.N.T., Val Jean in Les Miserables and  Don Jose in Carmen. You may have also seen Thomas in action on Channel 4’s The Last Leg

Thomas will be performing a series of 4 twenty-minute sets over Monday and Tuesday. Access will be capacity controlled on a first-arrivals basis. 

Secret Gardens Tickets:

All funds raised through Secret Gardens support The du Maurier Festival Society (Reg Charity no. 1143916) which stages The du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival.
Your 2-day Open Ticket offers unlimited access to all the private gardens listed, including Opera In The Garden. Children under 12 go free and must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets can be purchased at the garden entrances on the day.

Due to the steep nature of the area, some gardens may have difficult access. Visitors may also encounter a range of hazards e.g. steps, slippery and/or uneven ground, and other trip hazards. Neither the Festival nor the garden owner can accept any liability in the unlikely event of an accident. Please make a risk assessment of your and your group’s capability to safely manage these risks before deciding to enter a garden.

REFRESHMENTS:

Broadstairs, Daglands House and Porphyry Hall Garden garden will be offering tea, coffee and cake throughout each day.
