Due to the uncertainty around the policy for large gatherings by September, it is with a heavy heart that the Festival scheduled for the autumn, will now not take place.
Taking into account government advice; our own financial position and the safety of our visitors, speakers and all involved in staging of the Festival, we sadly had no choice but to not run it. We depend on the income that the Festival brings in each year to pay for all on-going expenses and the lack of the May Festival left us with a large shortfall. We launched a fundraising campaign to help with this and are very grateful for the many, kind donations we have received. However, the operational restrictions imposed through COVID-19, combined with not reaching our fundraising target, would risk leaving us in a vulnerable financial position for the future of the May 2021 Festival, had we gone ahead in the autumn. We feel that by forfeiting the autumn Festival, we will be in a stronger position to ensure the future of the Festival.
The 2021 Festival is scheduled for 7-15 May, and it is hoped that many of the speakers due to appear in the autumn will be able to join us for that. In the meantime, we are working on several events that we hope to bring you through the winter and spring.
Michael Portillo – we are pleased to announce that this event is scheduled to go ahead as planned, on 17 December 2020, at the Fowey Parish Church at 8pm.
We are extremely disappointed to not be getting together in the autumn, but we all look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in May 2021. In the meantime, please do keep in touch; we love to hear from you.
With our very best wishes,
The Fowey Festival Team
As a not-for-profit charity, this pandemic has come at a very inopportune moment for us. We are already committed to the vast majority of the associated costs incurred with running the May Festival. In normal times, these costs, along with taking the Festival forward to the following year, would be met through box office sales, but this will not be achieved at the rate or timescale in which we need them. With that in mind, we have set up a fundraising donation page. If you would like to make a donation to the fund, we would be most grateful. If you can’t, we totally understand, but sharing the link would be hugely appreciated.
