Helen Hanson – ‘Do’ Look Now: Viewpoints on the Adaptable Daphne du Maurier

Monday 13 May, 11:00am-12:00pm
Fowey Town Hall
10.00

Daphne du Maurier’s brilliant control of suspense, and her vivid creation of character viewpoint are qualities which have enduring appeal to readers, and have made her stories eminently adaptable beyond the page to visual storytelling in film and television. Taking Don’t Look Now and its 1973 film adaptation as a case study, this talk will explore how du Maurier’s literary viewpoints have been powerfully translated to gripping visual storytelling from some of cinema’s most renowned directors.

Helen Hanson is Associate Professor of Film History in the Department of Communications, Drama and Film Studies at the University of Exeter.
