Charles Spencer – To Catch a King: Charles II’s Great Escape

St Fimbarrus Church

Time: 12:30pm – 1:30pm

Price: £12.00

To Catch A King is the true story of one of the greatest escapes in British History. After the defeat at the Battle of Worcester, Charles II fled for his life with a vast price on his head to escape the men who had killed his father and wanted him and all traces of the monarchy, dead. Charles relied upon a patchwork of hiding places that had evolved since the Reformation to hide Catholics from lethal persecution by royal Protestant forces. Now in the 1650's they saved the life of a king. Acclaimed by Julian Fellowes as “history with the pace of a thriller”,  join Charles Spencer today as he superbly brings to life this thrilling chapter in British history, using Pepys’s account and the wealth of new letters and diaries that have come to light in the past 50 years.
