This artistic workshop is aimed at introducing Celtic ‘Uncial’ calligraphy, a wonderful rich lettering comprising of a curious mixture of capitals and minuscule. Working from its traditional roots, we will cover the principles of making good letterforms using an edged pen.
The picturesque port of Charlestown was created in 1799 as a mineral port. This walk explores its history from its early days as a tiny fishing village and its transformation into a shipping community with a wide range of occupations such as shipbuilders, mariners, sailmakers and more up to WW2.
Dr Laura Varnam is known at the Festival as a Du Maurier expert but in her day job she teaches Medieval Literature at University College, Oxford.
