The Festival is delighted to host the first English screening of the new documentary about Daphne du Maurier, shown on European culture channel Arte in February 2017. This fascinating and artistic documentary, directed by Elisabeth Aubert Schlumberger and produced by Patricia Houtart, features interviews with Du Maurier’s daughter Tessa Montgomery and bestselling writer Tatiana de Rosnay (author of Manderley Forever: A Biography of Daphne du Maurier). The documentary also includes rare archive material, scenes filmed on location in Fowey, and interviews with Du Maurier experts and Festival regulars Professor Helen Taylor, Ann Willmore, Piers Dudgeon, and Dr Laura Varnam. The documentary will be screened following a panel event lead by Professor Helen Taylor, discussing the process of making and researching the film, with director Elisabeth Aubert Schlumberger and producer Patricia Houtart; du Maurier biographer, Tatiana de Rosnay; and literary critic Dr Laura Varnam. (The documentary features interviews in English plus commentary in French with English subtitles). Wine and soft drinks available.
